Footwear

Maine Running Company educates each member of its staff to recognize the various types of foot structures and how to transition each customer to the appropriate footwear. This ensures your "Personal Fit" Guarantee.

Each customer, regardless of level or experience, receives a biomechanical foot and gait evaluation. This also involves:

  • Discussing the current footwear you use and your fitness activities and goals
  • Looking at the various arch types; high/rigid, medium and low
  • Completing a visual or video gait analysis
  • Evaluating how the foot transfers the runner’s or walker’s load (body weight) from landing zone, mid-foot support and finally thru propulsion or toe off
  • Determining if the foot supinates (rolls to the outside) remains neutral or has some level of pronation (the rolling in of the foot)

Other variables factored into your "Personal Fit" Guarantee include:

  • Past or current injuries
  • Orthotic use
  • Height and weight
  • Running and walking mileage
  • Foot width

Dependent on neutral or rear-to-mid-to-late stage pronation, these variables will determine which three or four shoes will be brought out for the runner or walker to decide. Through this "Personal Fit" Guarantee Process an accurate footwear solution can be made.

We are not doctors and don’t pretend to be, but by taking the time in getting to know our customer and looking at your feet, our "Personal Fit" Guarantee Process will help us determine the proper fit and the right solution for you.
